The Governing body of St Mary’s Church of England Primary School in Bideford would like to appoint a new Headteacher to lead the school on its journey of improvement This position provides an exciting and unique opportunity for a person with a proven, successful track record in a senior leadership role.

St Mary's is a two-form entry primary school with up to sixty children in each year group, giving a capacity of 420 pupils. While we are a relatively large primary school, we pride ourselves in having a distinct community feel. Teachers, support staff and senior leaders build extremely positive relationships with children and their families to make them feel that, while being part of a large community, they are truly valued. Our ethos is represented through our Christian values of friendship, acceptance, perseverance, compassion, respect and honesty.  


The ideal candidate for this role will:

  • Have the ability to empower and motivate children and staff alike, while upholding the school’s Christian values from within as well as amongst the wider community;
  • Embed existing good practice and further develop the school;
  • Provide a positive and high-quality educational experience for all our children during their time with the school in a safe, positive and caring environment.
  • Be innovative, determined and driven to constantly seek improvement for the children and communities that we serve
  • Continue to drive improvements in curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment
  • Be able to demonstrate highly accurate and effective communication skills

This is a permanent position working 1.0 FTE as of September 2024.

Closing date for applications is 9am Tuesday 19th March 2024. Interviews will be held on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th March 2024.
